This reprint is an encyclopedic account of the Tauchnitz firm of publishers, famous for their output of Anglo-American books throughout the 19th and first part of the 20th centuries. The main series of books from 1841 to 1943 is described, comprising 5370 volumes representing 783 English and American authors. The research is based on the collections of 46 libraries and over 56,000 variant copies of editions are taken into account. The book lists numerous first editions of Dickens and other popular novelists, and some of the editions actually precede the recognised first editions of many of the works.
