The specimens are numbered from 1 through to 165; book founts, decorative and display types, decorative borders, ornaments and so on.The firm was originally founded in Carlisle in 1816 by Charles Thurnam and initially comprised of a Circulating library and the selling of journals, periodicals, and even patent medicines.
