First published in 1798, but with no plates or portraits. Portraits and lives of "illustrious Britons" include Chaucer, Shakespeare, Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh, Captain Cook, John Howard, Dr. Johnson, John Locke, Sir Isaac Newton, John Milton, and General Wolfe.
