Printed for R. Ackermann. 1814. First Edition, 2 vols., large 4to, xvi,xxv,[i],275,[7]; [iv],262,[6]pp., portrait and 114 fine coloured aquatint plates (including 33 portraits of the Founders), some offsetting to text (as usual) but plates are clean, full red morocco gilt by Bayntun, rebacked with the original spine laid-down. “The principal artists employed by Ackermann to make the drawings for these two books were Pugin, Mackenzie, W. Westall, and F. Nash... The fine aquatints, with their somewhat old-world flavour, are well suited to reproduce the spirit and to recall the antique associations of the old quads and courts. Apart, too, from their fitness and beauty, the plates are of value as a historical record.”—Hardie.
