"Over two thousand pieces of silver anterior to the year 1825 are described and more than a thousand are illustrated in this book. Of these about one thousand six hundred and forty were made by American silversmiths. The remainder consists chiefly of English plate, which numbers over two hundred and fifty pieces."—Introduction.
