Cooke, First edition, 4to (275 x 175 mm), [4], 52, [2]pp., one of 50 copies privately printed, signed by the author on title page and a note in his hand at rear endpaper, woodcut frontispiece, 1 chromolitho plate illustrating encaustic tiles, 2 double-page printed genealogical tables, numerous woodcut illustrations, orig. red embossed cloth, spine lettered in gilt, a couple of small nicks to spine. A rare monograph/guide book devoted Stoneleigh Abbey, Warwickshire, a mediaeval Cistercian monastery converted into a country house and principal residence of the Leigh family, Lords Leigh. The author, Rev. Frederick Leigh Colville (1819-1886), Vicar of Leek Wooton, Warwickshire, and Domestic Chaplain to the then Lord Leigh. Provenance: Armorial bookplate of Colville impaling Leigh and modern plate of Bryan Hall with a related note regarding the author in his hand; from the library of Josceline Grove, with bookplate and their typed catalogue description pasted to front endpapers.
